A quick tutorial I wrote for those who want to learn how to render/shade a katana in Flash. Apply the techniques you learn here to things you do in the future. It will help.

I uploaded the outline (fla.) for those who don't have time to redraw:

How do you make the wavy line on the Katana properly?

Skyline, I need help with lines D: I can't seem to do them properly.
Also, I don't get how to use gradients mainly because I literally just started using Flash and I'm an utter noob :|

What kind of problems are you having with lines/gradients?

When it comes to lines, I can't seem to make the lineart properly, it always looks scruffy, especially the handle & hilt. The gradients, I don't know what type of colours I need, as in what type of shade ect. Also, putting them in place is hard :/

Hmm, well when you draw the lines, try to plan it out from curve to curve with straight lines. You can always edit them to make them smoother later. I HOPE that makes some kind of sense.
And it sounds like you're not having problems with gradients but you just need to study some basic color theories. Try looking at some videos on YouTube, some people explain it really well. It's simple once you get a hang of it.

Thanks Sky, I think I've found my true talent in Flash, not making weapons or anything, but actually making Flashed paintings of anime characters from scratch.
